COMMUNITY SERVICE and CHARACTER EDUCATION

LISD schools provided 136,792 hours of community service to the Lubbock community during the 2006-2007 school year. This is 75% of students in LISD schools. This percent is well above national average.
Character education is incorporated at every elementary campus.
LISD students and employees donated more than $240,600 to United Way in 2007.
LISD collected 97,216 pounds of food and donated more than $3,100 to the South Plains Food Bank.
Award-winning Army and Navy Junior ROTC programs.

ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Destination ImagiNation teams from Murfee Elementary and O.L. Slaton Middle School advanced to the global tournament where the Murfee team won fifth place.
Future Problem Solving (FPS) – 17 teams and six individuals qualified for State and one individual qualified for Global competition.

The Only Advanced Technology Center on the South Plains

In partnership with the City of Lubbock, the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA) and South Plains College, LISD offers certified training programs, provide actual workforce preparation, and makes available certified college credit with both South Plains College and Texas Tech University.
Technology certifications in: Computer Technology A+, and Computer Networking Net+.
Automotive Technology and Auto Collision Repair certification programs in cooperation with NATEF, AYES and ICAR.
Cutting-edge technology courses include 3D Digital Graphics/Animation and Structural Engineering (MAYA 7), Video Technology, Multimedia/Animation, and Graphic Communications.

Academic Excellence

Ten LISD students were named 2007 National Merit Semifinalists. No other school district in Lubbock County had any students qualify for the elite list. By comparison to similarly sized communities in Texas:
- Abilene ISD had 9 semifinalists
  Amarillo ISD had 6 semifinalists
  Midland ISD had 7 semifinalists
  San Angelo ISD had 2 semifinalists
  Waco ISD had 3 semifinalists
  Wichita Falls had 7 semifinalists
The ONLY International Baccalaureate diploma program on the South Plains.
Lubbock High School was named a national Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education
Three of the four LISD high schools qualified for the State Academic Decathlon for the seventh consecutive year – a statewide record.
Magnet programs in exemplary academics, expressive, creative, multi-media and fine arts; science and technology; communications, high technology; law, medical, engineering professions and a math/science academy.
The only orchestra program on the South Plains.
The only school district on the South Plains with art specialists K-12.
3-and 4-year-old Head Start program.
Tuition-based prekindergarten for four-year-olds at three elementary campuses.
Thirty-four LISD campuses received Gold Performance Awards (GPA’s) from the Texas Education Agency. In comparison with the state, Lubbock ISD had a higher percentage of campuses earning GPA’s for commended performance in three of the five subject areas (Math, Science and Social Studies) and a higher percentage of campuses achieving comparable gains in Reading/English Language Arts.
Three Lubbock ISD students were named semifinalists in the 2006-2007 Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology
