The 2009 Kodaly Initiative is scheduled for June 8-19

It will again be hosted by Lubbock ISD on the OL Slaton Middle School and Advanced Technology Center Campuses.

The West Texas Kodaly Initiative consists of a group of fine arts supervisors and Coordinators, school superintendents and university music education professors with a strong interest in providing opportunities for on-going teacher training for music educators. We are meeting in response to requests from teachers and administrators in North and West Texas and surrounding areas for a Kodaly Certification program held in an accessible geographic location. Our mission is:

Meet the continuing educational needs of area music specialists by providing a comprehensive, graduate level teacher-training program that specializes in Kodaly-inspired music education.

  • Apply the educational principles of twentieth century Hungarian pedagogue Zoltan Kodaly in a way that is relevant to American students in the American schools of the twenty-first century.
  • Develop a pool of outstanding young professionals and master music teachers equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools to meet the growing demand for Kodaly-trained specialists in the state of Texas and throughout the United States.
