Location:
Hodges is located at 5001 Ave. P, in central Lubbock. This Title-1 elementary school has about 450 students. Hodges has one principal and one assistant principal on duty two and three times a week. There are 42 classrooms, one outside gym and an inviting outdoor learning center.

Computer Labs:
Hodges has "two networked, fully equipped Dell flat screen computer labs." There are color laser printing possibilities. Each lab has a computer technologist and a  technology manager to facilitate, teach, monitor, support and plan with the teachers to integrate technology in the curriculum. Each teacher has one competency  laptop computer, printer, some LCD Projector, and some a Net TV. In addition, there are computers, Alpha Smarts and Neos in several classrooms that are used by students as well as computer workstations for technology integration.

Wireless Mobile Lab: This lab was received by a grant from the district. Its purpose is to allow teachers and students the advantage to do research and other curriculum required assignments for the district and campus. Students and teachers are able to access the Internet and print in a wireless mode.

Voyager Reading Program:
Voyager U's professional development programs combine group interaction and online technology to produce an effective and convenient training model. Voyager U has found that teachers learn best when they are involved in activity-based programs that take place over an extended period of time, supported by peer interaction and local coaches. For the 2002-2003 school year, in conjunction with Voyager U, New York state, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Arizona are initiating reading academies designed to help K-3 teachers achieve success through effective professional development. Voyager U's Reading Academy focuses on the 5 Big Ideas in early literacy instruction: (1) Phonemic Awareness, (2) Phonics, (3) Fluency, (4) Vocabulary Development, and (5) Comprehension. Academy content is aligned with Reading First legislation requirements. Academy participants learn how to use early literacy DIBELS measures to guide instruction. Research based content, accompanied with learn-by-doing activities, supported by coach and peer discussion and feedback, enables teachers to significantly improve their skills for teaching reading.

MClass: TPRI: Texas Primary Reading Inventory and Palm Handhelds
This is a system that allows teachers to use a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) handheld Palm, to administrate the Texas Primary Reading Inventory (TPRI) to students in grades K-3. Results are sent to a secure website and detailed reports and instructional suggestions are given back to the classroom teacher for the students.

Intel Teach to The Future:
Hodges is proud to have several teachers who have gone through the "Intel Teach to The Future" training. These teachers have earned several pieces of technology equipment and have gained many vital skills in the field of technology and technology integration. There are other teachers at Hodges who have participated in many hours of TIF training during the summer.

Internet Accessibilities:
Hodges students have access to the Internet, providing the district Student Code of Conduct Form has been signed by parents and is on file. Students are supervised by a teacher or qualified faculty member during the times the student is accessing the Internet. Lubbock ISD has a WebSense filter that will block inappropriate sites.
