STUDENT COUNCIL The Hutchinson Student Council is actively involved in service projects including American Walk for Diabetes and the U-Can Share Food Drive. They also work with the Spirit Squad to sponsor special dress-up days correlated with fall sports events. NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY The NJHS recognizes and promotes high standards of character, citizenship, scholarship, leadership, and service. Students who have completed at least one six weeks and maintained an overall 3.42 grade point average are eligible. They are actively involved in service projects including the Ronald McDonald House, the Food Bank, Race For the Cure, haven's Animal Shelter, and Special Olympics. NATIONAL JUNIOR ART HONOR SOCIETY The NJAHS is in the process of being organized at Hutchinson. The NJAHS recognizes students who have shown outstanding ability in art and promotes art in the school and community. Students who have completed at least one semester of art at Hutchinson and maintained an overall 3.2 grade point average are eligible. JUNIOR HISTORIANS The Junior Historians is sponsored by the Texas State Historical Society. The purpose of Junior Historians is to promote active participation in learning about history. Students participate in field trips and in history research projects. Our chapter is named the Lonnie Wheeler Chapter in honor of a long-time Hutchinson history teacher. The chapter sponsor is Ms. Angela Woodard with support provided by Mr. Andrew Astwood. SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club is open to any Hutchinson student enrolled in a Spanish class. Members attend various cultural events in the community. HUTCH PLAYERS (DRAMA CLUB) The Hutch Players is open to any Hutchinson student enrolled in a theater art class. Members attend local and traveling theater productions in the Lubbock area. SPIRIT SQUAD The Spirit Squad is responsible for promoting school spirit related to home sporting events. Students in 8th grade at Hutchinson with an overall 3.0 grade point average and good citizenship are eligible to join during the first week of school. Spirit Squad members are expected to attend all practices and specified home games. Members wear jeans, tennis shoes, and the Spirit Squad T-shirt provided by the school. DESTINATION IMAGINATION The DI completion promotes creative problem solving and cooperation. Interested students may participate in Destination ImagiNation as space allows. The team is organized during the first few weeks of school. UIL MATH and MATH COUNTS Hutchinson has a strong tradition in UIL Math and Science competitions. Our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are eligible to be members of these teams, which are formed during the first six weeks of school. They participate in local and area competitions throughout the year. |
