LISD began the junior high magnet program at Hutchinson in 1980.  At that time, our program emphasized academics and the first Pre-AP classes were offered in conjunction with the magnet program.  The magnet focus at Hutchinson Middle School has grown and now includes both Academic (Pre-AP classes in math, science, social studies and English) and Fine Arts. 

The traditional fine arts classes of art, band, choir, and orchestra are offered at Hutchinson.  However, students may also select from theatre arts, photography, photo-journalism, introduction to technology, and creative writing.   Dance and gymnastics are two other options available through the Lomax Center.  Athletic Trainer is an additional elective classes unique to the Hutchinson campus.
