Students in the 7th and 8th grades are eligible to take photo-journalism as an elective.  In this class, students develop skills in taking digital photographs.  These are used for class assignments and student Power Point projects. Selected photographs are also included in the yearbook and literary magazine.  In January 2007, student photographs were featured at the Asbury Gallery and First Friday Art Trail event.  One of the photographs was also printed in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal "Around Town" supplement for that week.

*Ten J. T. Hutchinson students in the photo-journalism class received a photo credit in a new book entitled, Dean of West Texas Architecture:  Sylvan Blum Haynes.  They were also invited to participate in a book signing at Barnes & Noble.
