Welcome to Positive Behavior Supports 2007! It is an exciting time in the history of LISD as we implement PBS at a district level. Throughout the summer 58 campus PBS teams attended training in school-wide positive behavior supports and have now begun sharing their plans with their campuses.
Campus plans for this year focus on developing and teaching expectations for common areas throughout the school building. Common areas such as hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, arrival/dismissal areas, assemblies, pep rallies, etc. are often areas where problem behavior begin. Educational research has shown that developing a common set of expectations and teaching them consistently throughout the building will help 75-80% of students to be more successful in the school environment.
Three key areas for development of common areas this year are: 1) Developing, posting and teaching Guidelines for Success for each building, 2) developing, posting and teaching expectations for common areas and 3) implementing a system of positive reinforcement in support students as they exhibit targeted behaviors in common areas.
