Implementation Calendar
Phase One of the LISD Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Project has been initiated with great success. The PBS Project will be introduced in three phases:
- Phase One-
- Development of Schoolwide Guidelines for Success
- Developed, posted, practiced
- Development of Expectations for Common Areas
- Developed, posted, practiced
- Development of Reinforcement Systems for Positive Behavior
- Phase Two-
- CHAMPs training (Elementary) and ACHIEVE training (Secondary) to address Classroom Management and Small Group Behavior Interventions
- Phase Three-
- Emphasis on Individual Interventions and Comprehensive Behavior Plans for Students with Intensive Behaviors
Positive Behavior Support Teams have been established on every campus. These teams attended training throughout the summer and developed plans for the implementation of PBS on their campuses. Evidence of these plans can be viewed in their buildings in the form of signs, visual cues to assist students with behavior, and common language being used in the building.
Expected outcomes of the PBS project include an increase in academic performance due to increased time in class, reduction of office referrals, reduction of ISS, reduction of Alternative Education Placements, and increase in the emphasis on positive behavior. Educational research indicates that the behavior we focus on will increase. In LISD our goal is to focus on the positive behavior of our students. We have chosen to approach discipline from a positive, proactive standpoint, rather than a negative and reactive stance.
