PBS History and Overview
Lubbock Independent School District is proud to be a Positive Behavior Support District with 4 Early Childhood Centers, 37 Elementary Schools, 10 Middle Schools and 4 High Schools actively participating in PBS implementation.
LISD formally began utilizing the PBS philosophy and strategies in 2005 when 9 schools joined with the Region 17 Educational Service Center in a three year training model. The following year 3 additional schools joined in the project. Since that time schools involved have seen changes in the safety, civility and productivity of their campuses. This is evident in reduction of PEIMS referrals, days out of class due to discipline, failure rates in math and reading and Alternative Education Placements. Climates have improved as energy has been focused on positive prevention of problem behaviors. Clear expectations, taught in a consistent manner with reinforcement of desired behaviors have increased the consistency of appropriate behaviors in the school setting.
Improvement in these 12 school environments has led the district to the decision to implement PBS district-wide. It is with great enthusiasm that LISD expands the PBS philosophy to include all schools as a part the future taking flight.
