Overview of Reinforcement Systems
Research indicates that behavior we focus on will increase. If students receive attention for negative behavior, the negative behavior will increase. Conversely, if students receive attention for positive behavior, the positive behavior will increase. PBS schools develop systems that allow them to positive reinforce students for positive behaviors on a consistent basis. Through these systems we see an improvement in overall school behavior, an increase in parent and community involvement as more positive contacts are made in regards to their children, and a decrease in negative behaviors in the school setting. Each school develops a system that matches the needs of their students. By becoming positive and preventative we are able to become less negative and reactive. That’s something to celebrate!
