The Lubbock Independent School District invites you to experience the
S.O.A.R. (Students Obtaining Academic Richness) program for pre-kindergarten students. The S.O.A.R. program will be offered to students for the 2008-2009 school year at Centennial Elementary, Honey Elementary, Murfee Elementary, Smith Elementary, Waters Elementary, Whiteside Elementary and Roscoe Wilson Elementary.

The program offers a curriculum which provides a detailed outline of knowledge and competencies for young children. The curriculum will also help each child build a solid, coherent foundation for successful learning. 

The curriculum will address four dimensions of readiness:

Language Development  
Oral language, poems, finger plays, songs, literacy skills, stories, story telling, and art expression.

Social and Emotional Development
Following directions, staying on task, working in small groups, following rules, self-help skills, and play centers

Cognitive Skills 
Language/Reading – Alphabet recognition, basic phonics, stories, reading, storytelling, emerging literacy skills in reading and writing

Mathematics – Patterns, sorting, classifying, numerals, counting, measurement, graphing, addition with concrete objects, and money

Science – Animal characteristics and growth, plant characteristics and growth, human body, environment, seasons, weather, dinosaurs, space, and geography

Social Studies – Self, family, community, community helpers, multicultural activities

Motor Skills
Fine Motor – Cutting, gluing, painting, writing, coloring, puzzles, and manipulatives

Gross Motor – Outdoor play, dancing, creative expression, music and movement
