Magnet School

 Tubbs has been awarded the Gold Performance Acknowledgment (GPA)

 by the Texas Education Agency.  The acknowledgment recognizes districts campuses

 for high performance on the 2005-2006 indicators separate from those used

 to determine accountability ratings.

Programs

Tubbs Elementary School provides a traditional curriculum and grading system with an emphasis on technology that includes multiple opportunities for students in computer and regular classroom instruction including self contained grades K-3 and departmentalized in 4th-5th grades. Tubbs offers opportunities in Gifted and Talented, daily computer instruction for every student, art and music. Tubbs Elementary is also one of the few elementary schools in the state that offers Spanish classes for grades K- 5.

 

 

  Computer & Technology Instruction

Along with individualized instruction from the teachers, the Voyager Universal Literacy Curriculum,
and the Accelerated Reading program, students at Tubbs receive computerized reading instruction.
Visagraph eye-movement recording and PAVE software improve visual functioning.
Lexia phonics software is used for Kinder-3rd grade. In 3rd grade a computerized placement test places students into the Reading Plus comprehensive computerized reading improvement system that tracks and places students on their appropriate reading level for maximum reading improvement.
Frontier Math, FasttMath, Go Solve, and Orchard Math are programs used for computerized math instruction.
Science is approached through Orchard Science Software, the Learn About Science series, and BrainPop on-line.
United Streaming video clips are used for lesson enhancement in all curriculum areas in the classrooms.
SmartBoards, CPS remote units, and Neo word processors are also used in the classrooms to enhance instruction.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Science Lab- Tubbs has a new science lab.

   All classes access it on a weekly basis for hands-on multi-disciplinary activities.

 

Requirements for Transfer Students

Approval to enter and remain at an elementary magnet school is based on the following criteria:

  • Pass all portions of the most recent TAKS
  • 3.2 GPA (grades 1-6)
  • Teacher and principal recommendation
  • Screening for Kindergarten students at specified times
  • Good attendance and behavior

Students who attend Tubbs Elementary Magnet School are monitored throughout the year to assure that they maintain the criteria.
