Thank you for visiting the Waters Elementary website.
I am Karen Thornton and it is my pleasure and honor to be the principal
at Waters. This is my 13th
year at Waters and I truly enjoy serving our students and families.
I grew up in Connecticut where I began my
teaching career but was fortunate to move to Texas in 1975 (a Yankee by birth
but a Texan by choice!). I have been a teacher, counselor, diagnostician, and
instructional specialist before becoming a principal in 1991.
My husband is from West Texas and we both think Lubbock is a great city.
I have one son who is in law school in Houston and another son who just
graduated from Coronado High School. They
are both products of Lubbock Independent School District.
At Waters we strive not only to educate our
students but also to help them grow socially and emotionally to become happy,
successful and productive citizens. Our
staff is dedicated, caring and truly strives to make a difference in
children’s lives. These teachers give more that 100% everyday to ensure that
our students receive the very best education possible. What is best for students is the driving force behind all our
decisions.
The parents at Waters are great! They are
supportive, encouraging and can be found volunteering in the classrooms and
workroom daily. The Waters PTA has been recognized by the district and state
as outstanding. We would not be
able to do all the neat things we do without the help and continual support of
our parents.
With the winning combination of dedicated staff,
eager and excited students and supportive parents, we hope to continue serving
students and making Waters a great place to learn!
