Alderson—Success, one step at a time.

Vietnam War

I can still remember my first realization of world literature.  I was little during the Vietnam War.  On the front page of the newspaper was the picture you see on the left.

War is something that is horrible, but children in my day weren’t usually privy to such adult information.  We didn’t have violent video games or gruesome scary movies.

Reading the Real World

This picture affected me deeply.  I was felt shame and humiliation for this young girl, so much so, that I hid the newspaper from my grandfather.  I couldn’t even explain why I had hid the paper, but I was deeply affected by this photo.

I would later see this same photo again years later in a Mass Communications class.  It was then that I would learn that this picture affected an entire nation so deeply that the photographer was honored with a Nobel Peace Prize.

Has there ever been a picture that affected you so deeply?
