Metal Trades I and II

This course is designed to provide for entry level training in two fields: Welding and Machine Trades Careers.  

The student training will be safety, stick welding (arc), MIG welding (wire), cutting torch (oxy-acetylene), plazma cutting, grinders, and basic blue print reading.  There will be assigned projects to help master the skills needed in the welding field as required by industry for entry level employment skills. 

MachineTrades student will learn the basic skills for entry level employment using safety, the engine lathe, mill, drill press, saws and grinders for making assigned projects.  The student skills will come from precision measuring, blue print reading, drilling, turning, knurling, boring, milling, reaming, grinding tool bits, understanding computer numerically controlled machining, safety procedures and career opportunitites as required by industry standards. 

If the Tech Prep option is chosen, credits will be transferred to South Plains College
