At Bayless computers and
technology are an important resource that are used daily by our students. We
also assist the students so that they use the computer properly and to it's full
potential. This is an important part of my presence at Bayless.
We are very fortunate to be so well equipped. We have 25 Dell XP computers
in the intermediate computer lab. In the primary lab we have a new Lab Manager
to facilitate integration with 25 Dell computers. In all classes, kindergarten
through 6th grade there is at least one student machine as well as one teacher
machine. These machines are connected to the Bayless server where the students
can access networked software that is directly related to their curriculum.
Classes are also provided with local CD-ROM software that also enhances their
daily activities.
Students may also have access to the Internet, providing you have given your
child permission on the enrollment form. If permission was not given, your child
cannot be given access. The students generally work on research projects, and
are under the supervision of their teacher during this time. The Internet is not
considered a game at school and will be used solely for educational purposes.
Also, the school district has a filter called WebSense which blocks
inappropriate sites.
As you go from class to class
you will see some teachers with NET TVs and other technology related devices,
like wireless chalkboards, CPS units and Alpha Smarts. These teachers received
these products because they passed their technology competencies and
applied for grants to further their integration of technology in their
classrooms.
In addition to all of the above technology, we are also fortunate enough to have
four machines in the Library that the students may use for research.
