Orchestra

Description:
Full symphonic orchestra. String orchestra, chamber orchestra, chamber ensembles, and soloists performing a variety of music.
Membership Requirements:
Class enrollment. Student must have completed Orchestra I and be approved by high school director to enroll.

Uniform basics provided by the school. Spring trip is funded by student per individual account.

Description:

SIGN UP for Women's Choir and Men's Choir. AUDITION ONLY for Chorale and Scarlet Fever

Additional Information:
Evening concerts are a requirement for courses in choral music. Monday evening rehearsals are a requirement for all Varsity Choirs during the Spring semester.

Membership Requirements:
Must attend every game, pep rally, and special event as designated by the sponsor. Must meet and maintain standard U.I.L. eligibility requirements. Tryouts are held to determine membership.
Costs & Fees:
Costs involved will not prohibit any student from participating. Fundraising available.

Dance experience is necessary.

Diamond Dolls

Membership Requirements
Basic knowledge and love of baseball, enthusiastic, no serious discipline referrals; no conflicting spring sports or activities; Must meet and maintain standard UIL eligibility requirements.  Interviews held to determine membership. Open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade girls.
Costs and Fees
$25-$50 for shirts and outfits; $30 family membership for booster club
Additional Information:
Girls are selected through interview process.  Meet weekly for making posters and decorating lockers; Attendance required at all home games and events as designated by sponsor. Fundraising involved.

 Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)

Description:
One of largest Career and Technology organizations in the U.S. Encourages personal growth and leadership through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader. Members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge, and career and technology preparation.
Membership Requirements:
Be enrolled or previously enrolled in a Family and Consumer Sciences course.

$12 per year

Coronado has a very active chapter. Meets the second Friday of each month. Participate in numerous service projects as well as competitions.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Description: Open to anyone who wants to share their faith and grow spiritually.

Future Farmers of America/ CHS Agriscience

Description:
Organization for training in leadership and judging skills. Complete projects and compete in contests and shows. Study animal and plant production, wildlife, and other areas of Agriscience.
Membership Requirements:
Current enrollment in an agriculture science course.

$12 club dues and $5 additional fee for Wildlife and Recreation Management
Additional Information:
Awards and scholarships available to students through competition and involvement. Raising livestock projects optional, but highly recommended.

German Club

Meets every other week for special activities and cultural events. Concentration on Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There are short trips to German communities outside of Lubbock.

Anyone with an interest in the German language or in German speaking countries may attend.

Description: Improve the knowledge base of interested industrial technology students.

Marketing Education (DECA)

National organization for students interested in careers in marketing. National headquarters in Reston, Virginia with 230,000 members nationwide.

Students learn leadership skills and compete at the District, State, and National levels with other marketing students to test their knowledge and skill of business competency.

Description: Students participate in science activities, hear guest speakers and take field trips related to science.

Description: Active are group that meets monthly with several different activities including; guest speakers, peer teaching, field trips and special art projects.

Special Olympics

Speech and Debate Team

Description:
The Speech and Debate team travels around the state and nation to compete in debate, public speaking, and acting competitions with other high schools. Members will have the opportunity to compete for awards and scholarships. Events include Policy and Value Debate, Humorous and Dramatic Interpretations, Prose and Poetry reading, Original oratory, and Foreign and Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking.
Membership Requirements:
All members must be willing to travel and compete in a minimum of 2 tournaments each semester. Students should be willing to speak in front on an audience. Members must be enrolled in Debate, Oral Interpretation, or Public Speaking class. Continued membership by teacher approval.
Costs and Fees:
Required to help host the CORONADO CLASSIC SPEECH TOURNAMENT to help defray expenses. Two additional fundraisers will be held, one in the fall and one in the spring.
Additional Information:
Students will have the opportunity to join the National Forensic League, the Texas Forensic Association, and the University Interscholastic League.

Superintendent's National Merit Scholars Program

Description: Students learn techniques and strategies for answering questions on parts of the PSAT and SAT. Students receive and work through an extensive notebook of math/vocabulary materials.
Membership Requirements: Students are invited to participate in the program based on their score performance as sophomores taking the PSAT.

Texas Association of Future Educators-Coronado Chapter

To inspire high school students to pursue teaching professions. To offer them hands on experience in the classroom. To bolster respect and recognition of teachers, administrators, counselors and all other staff in Coronado High School.

Additional Information: We have a Math/Science contest at Coronado the last Saturday in October and the second Saturday of February each year. Competing in U.I.L. will enhance a student's chances of scoring well on college entrance exams. Scholarships are available at State. This is a weighted class.
