Coronado Sweeps 2-5A
Honors |
|
The Coronado
football team dominated District 2-5A this season, running away
with the first undefeated league mark in school history.
Coronado swept all three top honors and placed nine players on
the first team in voting done by the district's head coaches.
Leading the way are senior quarterback Austin Zouzalik as the
Offensive MVP and senior defensive end Bo Cambell as the
Defensive MVP. Zouzalik helped lead one of the more
powerful offenses on the South Plains. The Mustangs
reached the third round of the playoffs for the first time since
1996, and at the time Zouzalik was second in the state in
combined yards from scrimmage. As good as Zouzalik was
offensively, Campbell was his equal defensively, recording an
astounding 21 sacks to go with 97 tackles, 15 tackles for loss
and 12 quarterback pressures. He helped lead a unit that
held opponents to 290 yards per game. First Team Offense:
Evan Dickson, Landon Quigley, Chris Astwood, Blaine Potts, and
John Parenti. First Team Defense: Jordan Walker,
Derek Doss, Kholbye Walker, and Steven Snyder. |

Coronado Football
Makes History |
|
The Mustangs have been knockin' out some great victories under
the "Friday Night Lights" at Lowrey Field as they have been
shuttin' down the competition. The football team goes
undefeated in to win the District Crown out right and are
heading into the playoffs this weekend in El Paso playing the El
Paso Franklin team at the Sun Bowl. Kickoff will be 7:30
Central time.
The Mustangs
finished 9-1 and became the only team in school history to go
undefeated in district play. Coronado High School has been
opened since 1965, even though we have won or shared titles
before, no other team has done what this "Friday Night Lights"
team has conquered in 2007. We are proud of our players
and coaches for their tremendous season.
On Friday,
November 16, a new season begins for these young men. New
goals and dreams have been set for the 2007 Coronado Mustangs
Football team. As our players and coaches continue this
storybook season, let's get behind these young men and our
coaches and cheer them deep into the playoff run. Good
luck Mustangs!

CHS
Cheerleaders Welcome Home Lubbock Western All-Stars with Parade
of Honor
|
|
Attention rockets all-stars into a whole new world--Second in
USA, Third in World
|
The shrills of screaming
teenage girls at Thursday's parade were only a slight indication
of how life has changed for the Western All-Stars since they
returned from the Little League World Series. The endless lines
of fans seeking autographs and pictures are a better indication
but still don't paint the total picture. These 12-year-old boys
are receiving rock-star attention since they became the first
Little League team from Lubbock to advance to Williamsport, Pa.
|
There were proclamations and
resolutions from local and state officials, gifts from baseball
legan Nolan Ryan and a song about the ream performed by KILL-FM
personality Mudflap--all who wanted to find some way to shower
the boys with praise.
A parade in their honor on August 30, 2007, started at the United
Market Street on 50th and Indiana and concluded at City Bank on
34th and Slide Road. Fans of all ages lined the streets to
wave and catch a glimpse of our new heroes, the Western
All-Stars.
Congratulations Western All-Stars for a dream season for you,
your parents, and fans in Lubbock, Texas. Coronado High
School salutes you!!!
