Motions for Proposed Coronado PTA Bylaws Changes

1. Upon the recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee and with approval of the Board of Directors, I move that the offices of Vice President(s) names shall be changed from Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President, and Sophomore Vice President to First Vice President, Second Vice President, and Third Vice President in the Coronado High School Parent Teacher Association Bylaws.

 Background:

By specifying a certain grade level, it restricts who shall serve in that position. By changing the title, it will open the position up to others who would be interested in serving in these positions.

2. Upon recommendation from the Parliamentary Committee and with the approval of the Board of Directors, I move that the First Vice President’s job description be changed from Programs Chairman to Ways and Means Chairman in the Coronado High School Parent Teacher Association Bylaws.

Background:

As Programs Chair, the duties include the Texas Life Membership awards and Relay for Life. The Texas Life Membership and Relay for Life job responsibilities both fall at the same time of the year. PTA has been given more responsibilities for Relay for Life than in the past and it has become a bigger job than expected. Separating these jobs out would more not only allow for an additional PTA job but, would make it a more manageable commitment for someone.

By placing Ways and Means (Tailgate Fundraiser) as the First VP job description means, it would allow equal job responsibilities with the other VP’s. Each VP would have 2 assistants serving on the Board as well.

3. Upon the recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee and with the approval of the Board of Directors, I move that March be added to the possible regular meeting months in the Coronado High School Parent Teacher Association Bylaws.

 Background:

The Bylaws read that the regular meetings shall be held in September, February and May. Due to the various school events, there are certain years that the meeting will fall in March. By changing it to read, September, February or March, and May would give the PTA an option of when to hold the 2nd meeting.

4. Upon the recommendation of the Parliamentary Committee and with approval of the Board of Directors, I move that the council delegate for the meeting of the Lubbock ISD Council of PTAs meeting be changed from three (3) delegates to (1) delegate in the Coronado High School Parent Teacher Association Bylaws.

 Background:

The Principal and the President of the PTA are also in attendance of these meeting. Having one other delegate is sufficient to report back to the PTA the activity of the Council.
