STAR (Specialized Treatment And Rehabilitation) is a challenging program based on positive incentives to help the student to achieve a successful discharge. It is our belief that utilizing positive reinforcements and stringent military principles provides our students with the necessary tools and training to effect the positive changes needed to prepare them for re-entry into LISD mainstream. All parents are strongly invited to participate with us in this mission to change their child in a manner that will allow them to succeed in today’s academic setting. The STAR program within LISD has four levels. At JJAEP the Star program is the Star V mandated discipline program, where students are expected to respond in a positive manner to the teacher, perform to the best of their ability, and to improve. While teachers are completely in charge in their classrooms, outside of the classroom, the STAR, personnel are responsible for training in self-discipline. Students are expected to participate and cooperate in the classroom, however, if they fail to do so, students will encounter a very strict application of rules of military drill and procedure, intended to modify behavior to more acceptable standards of conduct. The STAR program focuses on the outside-of-the-classroom activities that are a different world using basic military concepts to help the student learn to accept and respect authority figures both at home and at school. The four basic values of the STAR program are self-discipline, self-esteem, self-worth, and affiliation. These values are important to all students and those they associate with and are a guide to live by. Life in STAR program is guided by the following documents: Classroom Guidelines (MS Word) Student Assignment Sheet (MS Word) Student Assignment Sheet (PDF) Prohibited Sanctions (MS Word) Download free copy of Acrobat Reader to view PDF files |
