The success of JJAEP efforts to a great extent depends on parental and family involvement. Therefore, all adults responsible for the students are required to participate in the Parent Education program (please, see the schedule).

The first 8 hours of Parent Education must be completed within 45 days of enrollment for a student to be eligible for review. If the student is on official probation, or if the student and the parent(s) are taken to court for truancy, then the parent(s) must attend 20 hours of Parent Education before the child can be eligible for review. The student will not be released from JJAEP, if he or she is not eligible for review. A follow-up counseling can be provided in the student’s home at the time convenient for all participants. When available, this program will be provided free of charge. Otherwise, a sliding minimal fee scale will be applied. A minimum of 8 hours of Parent Education is required for participation in the home counseling program.

In addition to timely attending classes, parents are also required to:

• Ensure that the student is at JJAEP by 07:50 a.m., and that he or she is picked up by an authorised person each day at 4:45 p.m. from JJAEP or from the LISD Aquatic Center at 14th and Ave. U daily

• Inform JJAEP of the current home and work addresses and telephone numbers
• Not to keep the student at home for whatever reason, except for the cases when a written, not altered excuse from a doctor, school nurse (usually, LCJJC nurse), or a probation officer obtained before 10:00 a.m.
• Attend all scheduled meetings pertaining to the student, including the Administrative Review for JJAEP Placement, ARD meetings, or any review meetings and any requested meeting at the JJAEP office
• Ensure that the student conforms to the Guidelines for Grooming and Personal Appearance.
• Abide fully by all the medical instructions in the Student Handbook and to sign the Emergency Medical Treatment Release form
