To install this download:

1. You may want to print this page to use as a reference when you are offline.
2. Download the file from Office Update by clicking on the Download Now! at the top left of this page and following the instructions in the dialog boxes.
3. Double-click the wd97vwr32.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
4. Word Viewer 97 Setup will prompt you for a folder in which to install Word Viewer. The default folder location for Word Viewer is <drive>:\Program Files\WordView on a Windows 95/98 system (<drive>:\WordView on Windows NT 3.51).
5. Click "Install" to install Word Viewer 97/2000.
6. If Word Viewer Setup detects Word version 6.x or later on your system, Setup will prompt you to determine which application should open Word documents by default. The default application is used to open files with .doc file extensions when they are double-clicked in Windows 95.
   • Choosing "Open with Word" means that Word for Windows will be used by default to open Word files.
   • Choosing "Open with Viewer" means that Word Viewer will be used by default to open Word files.
     

System Requirements for Word Viewer 97 for Windows 16-bit Operating Systems

• A personal computer with a 386 or higher processor
• MS-DOS® operating system version 3.x or later
• Microsoft Windows® 16-bit operating system version 3.1 or later
• 4 MB of memory for Windows 16-bit Operating systems (6 MB recommended)
• 3 MB of hard disk space (6 MB free for installation only)
• Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

To install this download:

2. Download the file from Office Update by clicking Download Now! at the top left of this page. Be sure to save the file to disk. For the Setup program to work properly, the file WdVw9716.exe must be saved to disk.
3. Double-click the WdVw9716.exe program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
4. Word Viewer Setup will prompt you for a folder in which to install Word Viewer or you can simply accept the suggested default location. The default folder location for Word Viewer is <drive>:\WORDVIEW.
5. After choosing the folder location for Word Viewer, continue through setup and click Install to install Word Viewer.

Viewer for Macintosh Users:

This is a shareware MS Word Document viewer that I have located for those of you who use Macintosh computers.  I cannot answer technical questions about this piece of software, since I have no personal experience with it and my experience with Macs is very limited.  For more information, please visit their website.  The reviews I have read say it is a very good and very useful utility.
