National Junior Honor Society

Introduction: New members of the Dorothy Lomax Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are invited to join after the fourth six weeks. Invitations are based upon:

1. Scholarship. The student must maintain a grade point average of 3.50 or above for four consecutive six weeks periods.

2. Leadership. The student who exhibits leadership qualities is able to exercise influence on his peers in upholding school ideals. This student inspires positive behavior in others and is dependable.

3. Service. A student who serves participates in activities in and outside of school, cheerfully renders service to the school, and enthusiastically represents the school in inter-scholastic competition.

4. Character. The student of character is honest, reliable, cheerful, friendly, stable, courteous, concerned for others, punctual, obedient, and respectful.

5. Citizenship. The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic involvement, has a high regard for freedom, and has respect for the American form of government.

Opportunities for Service. Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month before school. Other opportunities include Walk to D'Feet ALS on October 16, Fall Festival October 29, Caroling at Carillon December, 2004, Bowling for Big Brothers-Big Sisters in March, 2005, Community Project April, 2005 and March of Dimes April, 2005. Members can also participate in other groups that improve our community.
