We are fortunate to have two school nurses,
Mrs. Redford and Mrs. Justice. They can be contacted
at 766-1304.

The nurses check all student health records as they arrive on our campus, conduct screenings and notify students of immunizations that are not up to date. They check on sick babies and daily assist students who are ill.

The nurses organize free doctor's visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Volunteer doctors see babies and non-pregnant students for free. They provide prescriptions and free medicine samples as long as our supplies last. Prescriptions are filled with Medicaid information, insurance or by private pay. The nurses also schedule Childbirth classes on campus for pregnant students.

The nurses organize hospital tour trips about four times per school year. On tour days, students board a school bus to go to a local hospital about 10:30am. They are accompanied by at least one of the nurses and at least one other adult. They tour the labor and delivery facilities, are given information on hospital procedures, pre-registration and other information pertinent to the delivery of their babies. Students eat lunch at the hospital and return to school by school bus usually between 1:30 and 2:00pm.

Our nurses also sponsor Kid's Cafe presentations on Thursdays after school. They also schedule various student assemblies during the school year including the Great American SmokeOut and other guest speakers on topics including CHIPS, children's immunizations, health clinics, Medicaid and any other topics as the need arises.
