Dear Parent:

Undoubtedly your thoughts and those of your son or daughter are turning towards the often overwhelming task of selecting a college and all the details involved in that process – taking the appropriate tests, filling out financial aid forms and determining the appropriate match among all the available colleges and universities.  But have you and your college-bound junior discussed the type of environment that will best impact his or her success in college and beyond?

As a part of our efforts to prepare juniors for the college search, we are pleased to be able to offer a presentation that can play an important role in the process.  Making Your College Search Count, a practical, current look at college selection and application, will be presented here at Monterey High School on February 28 at 9:00 a.m.  I would like to personally invite you to attend this dynamic presentation. Parents across the nation have found that this presentation gives perspective on what their students will experience and have become better able to assist them by attending.

Making Your College Search Count offers valuable perspective to students on how to:

·          Manage materials sent to them by colleges

·          Focus their search based on their interests and needs

·          Gather information on campus visits

·          Understand how schools select students

·          Utilize different types of financial aid to assist them in financing their education

·          Create a personal college search that will lead them to the college that is the best match for them and where they will be the most successful

The program shows students that they are in control of their college search — and stresses that selecting a college is a personal process.  It shares fundamentals of applying to colleges and financing an education. There is no fee to attend the presentation thanks to corporate partners such as: Axia College of University of Phoenix, My College Options, American Petroleum Institute and Monster.

If you have any questions, please contact Judy Johnson at 766-0678.  We look forward to seeing you at the Making Your College Search Count presentation on February 28.

Sincerely,

Judy Johnson
