Can’t Hide that Murfee Pride!

Success is embedded in the culture of Murfee. The students are always expected to do their very best, and they learn to set challenging goals for themselves. The parents are supportive and involved. The teachers are always willing and eager to learn new strategies to help students learn. Most importantly, Murfee understands that success is built one student at a time. There is a focus on understanding and meeting the individual needs of each child. I am honored and proud to be serving as the principal of this great school for the tenth year.

Lubbock has been my home for all of my life. I began my official education at Wester Elementary. It was there that I realized that I wanted to become a teacher and principal, following the footsteps of my own teachers and principal. Of course, having an educator for a mother influenced me as well. I attended Evans Junior High and graduated from Coronado High School. Later, I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Texas Tech University.

I began my career in education at Martin Elementary as a third grade teacher. Later, I taught at Waters Elementary as a fourth and first grade teacher. I served as the assistant principal at Rush, Wright, and Haynes Elementary Schools. As you can see, I have been an avid supporter of the Lubbock Independent School District for many years!

I married the boy almost next door (there was one house between us). Robert, my husband, and I have three wonderful sons. Layne is 18 years old, Reid is 15 years old, and Kreg is 12 years old. All three of our boys have been proud Murfee Mountain Lions, and they provide us with a wealth of happiness. They also keep us very busy!

When I am not in school, I enjoy reading. My favorite book is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I also enjoy cooking and eating with my family. My husband’s homemade pizza is our favorite. I also love to teach Sunday school, work in my garden, and enjoy the sunshine.

Murfee is a special school because of the dedication and devotion of its students, parents, teachers, and staff. Thank you for making Murfee a wonderful place to learn and grow. Together, we will continue to provide a priceless education for our children!
