Certification Requirements

Candidates for positions requiring Texas certification must meet appropriate certification requirements. For information regarding certification requirements contact the State Board for Educator Certification.

Parent Notification Compliance with P.L. 107-110, Section 1111(h)(6)(A). As a parent of a student in the Lubbock Independent School District, you have the right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct your child, and Federal law requires the school district to provide you this information in a timely manner if you request it.  Specifically, you have the right to request the following information about each of your child's classroom teachers:

  • Whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and subjects he or she teaches.
  • Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status because of special circumstances.
  • The teacher's college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.
  • Whether paraprofessionals provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications.

Appraisal Process

The annual appraisal of District teachers shall be in accordance with the state approved Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS), except that the appraisal of teachers assigned to certain campuses shall follow a campus teacher appraisal plan written in compliance with statutory provisions and commissioner's rules. All employees shall be appraised in the performance of their job duties annually or at more frequent intervals.

Mentor Teacher and Induction Programs

All schools provide new teacher assistance/mentoring to facilitate a smooth transition onto the campus. Our professional development division provides orientation in August and throughout the year. One week prior to the opening of school, thirty hours of induction are provided to all teachers new to the profession. A new teacher academy provides an additional thirty hours of training throughout the school year.

10 months = 187 days
10.5 months = 197 days
11 months = 211 days
12 months = 226 days
