- Create a Book of Good
Manners for the classroom, cafeteria, restroom, or gym. Take
photos of examples of good behavior and have students write about
what
is happening in each photo.
- Compose a Bio-Poem — Each student inserts his/her photo in a word
processing document and writes a bio-poem. If time allows, clip-art
can be added to enhance the appearance. This can also be done using
PowerPoint. Each student completes one slide and then all of the
slides are compiled into one presentation. The presentation can be
showing as students arrive at school or during open house. Both the
word processing document and PowerPoint slides can be printed to
make a poetry book. Click here to access a bio-poem template.
- Student Affirmations — Take a picture of each student and have
the student insert his/her picture in a word processing document.
Divide
the students in groups of 3-5. Students need to rotate to the
computer of a group member and type a specific affirmation under
the group
member’s picture. Rotate until each group member and the teacher
has the opportunity to write an affirmation for each member. Print
each student’s affirmations page for them to keep.
- Read the book, If You Want to Find Golden, by Eileen Spinelli.
Students take photos of things that would represent different
colors. Students write sentences for the pictures. (Adapted from
a lesson
by Laura Lessila, Summit View Elementary School, Waukesha , WI.)
- Digital Camera Poetry Books — Each student takes one picture of
a specific location in the school. Then the student inserts the picture
in a word processing document and writes a poem about that location.
Combine the printed documents to create a poetry book about the school.
- Alliteration Activity — Write an alliterative
sentence describing a digital picture. Example: Susie Sanders sways
and sings syrupy
sweet songs to students and staff signifying the start of summer
solstice. Use pictures of students, characters from a book, moon
phases, land forms, etc.
- Geometry
Walk (created for a fifth grade lesson, but adaptable
to third grade.) — Students take a walk for a specified time to
find assigned shapes. Then, insert the photos into PowerPoint and
write
about their shapes.
- Insect Photos — Enlarge with PhotoEditor;
import into KidPix. Label body parts.
- Touring
for Nouns — Students tour the school for nouns which fit into an assigned
category.
- National Math Trail — Students
take photos of their community or school and create math problems.
