Technology
Competencies for
Instructional Staff
LISD
Technology Competencies were established to set a standard for technology
skills that all LISD employees should attain to utilize technology effectively
and to increase productivity. As technology continues to advance and
new systems are introduced into the district, it is imperative and the
expectation of the district that all employees will continually upgrade
their skill and find new ways to improve their job performance and efficiency.
The
competencies also serve as a system by which teachers can obtain a basic
technology package for their classroom. By passing certain competencies,
teachers become eligible to receive instructional technology.
Technology
skills are essential for students futures and are also an integral
part of the Texas Essential
Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Every curriculum area is required to
teach about and with technology. Technology offers instructional staff
abundant opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of
instructional management tasks, research, communications (with parents,
students and other professionals), preparation of instructional materials,
delivery of instruction, development of exciting real-world assignments,
and assessment of learning. Required minimum competencies for instructional
staff are described below.
