•  What's Your Cluster?

      LISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses are organized into career clusters, providing students an introduction to specific career areas and options for further education or immediate employment.  These programs offer students the opportunity to earn industry certifications and college credit while in high school.

      Lubbock ISD offers students the opportunity to learn about many career choices in fifteen of the career cluster areas.  They are as follows:  Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources, Architecture and Construction, Arts, Audio/Video Production & Communications, Business Management and Administration, Education & Training, Finance, Health Science, Hospitality and Tourism, Human Services, Information Technology, Law and Public Safety, Manufacturing, Marketing, Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics, and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics.  We actually combine Finance and Marketing into our Business Management and Administration cluster. 

      Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) provide opportunities for leadership and citizenship development and counselors are available at each high school to provide specialized course and career planning.

       

       LISD CTE Goals

       
        The Career and Technical Education goals for LISD for the 2016-2017 are:
       
      • Provide a CTE plan for all high school students while implementing HB5 as required by TEA.
      • Determine the CTE short and long term needs and planning options for both the present and the future.
      • Continue the development of a workforce that bridges the gap between education and college and career readiness.
      • Integrate into the curriculum and instruction current and additional recognized CTE certifications and licenses.
      • Collaborate with all stakeholders to determine the demand for a trained and skilled manufacturing workforce.
      • Evaluate all programs to determine the short and long term needs and planning options (curriculum, equipment, software, peripherals, etc.) for both the present and the future.
      • Continue and grow our CTE relationships with our community and business partners.
      • Continue to build strong advisory committees to help prepare students for the current and future needs of our workforce.
      • Help students acclimate toward a field of career study and to secure the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their chosen field.
      • Research new programs and initiate the planning and designing of new programs being added to the Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center and on our middle school and high school campuses.

       

       CTE State Plan and Goals

      The State Plan for Career and Technical Education is focused on improving the academic and technical educational opportunities for students, including rigorous and relevant career preparation.  The State Plan for CTE has been developed with the understanding that an academic education and technical education are compatible concepts and the academics are reinforced and applied through a high quality, rigorous technical education program.

      The State Plan for Career and Technical Education is based on four (4) goals.  The public education systems must take immediate action by addressing the following challenges:

      • Recognize the unique needs of a diverse student population
      • Prepare students for college and career success

      • Provide students with a quality education that prepares them to be competitive within a global economy

      • Recruit and retain qualified teachers
