With the new school year underway, we want to remind you about how we can help reduce the spread of communicable illnesses.
Healthy habits prevent germs and infectious diseases from spreading. Learning and practicing these healthy habits can help protect you and those around you.
-
Wash your hands often. Our hands carry germs, so it’s important to wash them often, even if they don’t look dirty.
-
Clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces. Germs can live on surfaces, so regular cleaning of high touchpoint areas is recommended.
-
Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your sleeve. If you are sick, the air that comes out of your mouth when you cough or sneeze may contain germs. Someone close by can breathe in your air, or touch a surface contaminated with your germs, and become ill. Cough or sneeze in a tissue or your shirt sleeve; not into your hands. Remember to toss the tissue and wash your hands. Face masks are also welcomed, but not required.
-
Stay updated on vaccines. Vaccines can prevent many infectious diseases.
-
Stay home when you’re sick. When you’re sick, stay home and rest. You’ll recover sooner, and won’t spread germs.
We will continue to evaluate public health guidance provided by our governing agencies and local health authorities and make adjustments as needed. The safety of our Lubbock ISD family remains a priority as we nurture, develop, and inspire every child, every day.

Masks / Face Coverings
Masks are welcomed, but not required or provided. Executive Order GA-36 signed by Governor Greg Abbott on May 18, 2021, prohibits governmental agencies from mandating face coverings. While opinions vary, personal choice about mask-wearing is always to be respected by staff, students, parents, and visitors.

Communicable Diseases
Lubbock ISD prioritizes student and staff health and wellness as we work together to minimize the spread of communicable diseases in our community. As always:
-
It is expected that if a student or staff member feels unwell or has a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher, they should stay home until they are well or cleared by a medical professional.
-
Students who show atypical symptoms of being ill at school will be evaluated by the nurse. The nurse will determine whether the child can remain at school or will consult with the parent/guardian on appropriate action.
-
Students who are absent for any reason will follow regular attendance guidelines as outlined in the Lubbock ISD Student Handbook. Procedures for obtaining make-up work for any missed school days should be handled directly with the student’s teacher.
-
-
Building and Classroom Procedures
Lubbock ISD classrooms, buses, and other frequently-used spaces will continue to be cleaned regularly per district guidelines.
-
Hand sanitizer and surface cleaner is available and will be used as needed throughout the school day.
-
Outdoor learning spaces will be used when possible.
-
All approved visitors may visit campuses, but a photo ID is required at the front office when signing in for a visit to receive approval before gaining access.
-
Social distancing and spacing between family groups during campus events is encouraged.
