Gifted and Talented District Advisory Committee

  • The Gifted and Talented District Advisory Committee (DAC) is a new committee formed of LISD staff and parents. The committee's purpose is to guide the office of Advanced Academics to make appropriate changes to the G/T program that serves the best interest of the students and families, including:

    • Advise the GT Department on its vision & goals
    • Give guidance on the District Improvement Plan (GT Goal) based on guidance from the Texas State Plan for the Instruction of Gifted and Talented Students
    • Long-term Program Planning and Improvement
    • Provide feedback on what’s happening from their region/level perspectives
    • Collect and analyze feedback from stakeholders to guide planning and improvement
    • Review communications from the GT department
    • Look for and offer opportunities for grants and scholarships for our staff and students

     

    2022-2023 Goals

    The DAC aims to guide the office of Advanced Academics in providing and promoting communication with both parents and teachers of gifted students in LISD.

    When Are DAC Meetings?

    The G/T DAC will have four meeting dates for the 2022-2023 school year. All will be held at Lubbock ISD Central Office with a virtual option via Google Meet 5:30-6:30pm.

    • Wednesday, April 12

     

    2021-2022 Goals

    The DAC continued to bring awareness of GT services to the staff and community of Lubbock ISD. Meetings were held in-person with a virtual option.

     

    Membership

    Members serve for 1 year at a time, beginning August 1st. There are 4 meetings annually, typically lasting 1 hour each. The total time commitment is usually around 10 hours annually, but may vary based on sub-committee attendance. Once you have served as a member of the committee, your spot will have priority during the membership renewal period. Members serve by:

    • attending the 4 meetings
    • participating in additional, applicable sub-committees
    • communicate through email with other committee members
    • representing Lubbock ISD as an advocate for gifted services for all students

    District Representation

    The DAC is composed of both Lubbock ISD staff and family members, members of the office of Advanced Academics, as well as a variety of representation from all feeder patterns. The membership application is now open for the 2022-2023 school year.
