Districts are required to certify annually to the State Board of Education and the Commissioner that students have access to instructional materials which covers all the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for each subject in the required curriculum. This annual certification form is required prior to submission of requisitions for the school year.
The State Board of Education adopts instructional materials each year. The materials are then made available for review by local adoption committees, which are formed for each subject under consideration.
The Instructional Materials Allotment and TEKS Certification provides assurances that the districts will select instructional materials that have been adopted by the state for appropriate use in Texas schools.
