Lubbock ISD Scholars Criteria

  • Primary Scholars
    Kindergarten—2nd Grade
    Primary Scholar will be determined by high levels of achievement in Istation ISIP assessment.
    To be eligible to become a Primary Scholar, students must meet the following requirement:

    • Have a score at or above the 95th percentile on the March ISIP in Istation

    Intermediate Scholars
    3rd Grade—5th Grade
    Our Intermediate Scholars are a select group of academically talented students who are identified by meeting one or more of the following criteria:

    • A score at or above the 95th percentile on the March ISIP in Istation
    • Earn a composite score of Masters grade level on the first three nine-weeks district assessments in one or more of the four core subject areas

    Junior Scholars
    6th Grade—8th Grade
    Junior Scholars, students with strong intellectual abilities, are identified by one of the following criteria:

    • A score at or above the 95th percentile on the March ISIP in Istation
    • Earn a composite score of Masters grade level on the first three nine-weeks district assessments in one or more of the four core subject areas
    • A current PSAT 8/9 score at or above the district 95th percentile cut score

    Varsity Scholars
    9th Grade—12th Grade
    Varsity Scholars are distinguished scholars who are recognized by one of the following criteria:

    • A current PSAT/NMSQT (Superintendent’s Scholars) score at or above the district 95th percentile cut score
    • Earn a composite score of Masters grade level on the first three nine-weeks district assessments in one of the following areas:  English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, or U.S. History
    • Identified National Industry Certifications and licensures based on Federal Guidelines
    • AP/IB qualifying score of 3 or higher for AP exams, a 4 or higher on IB exams, or earning at least three Dual Credit college hours
    • A current SAT/ACT score at or above the district 95th percentile cut score
    • National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) qualifying score for recognition:
      • National Merit Semi-Finalist/Finalist
      • Commended Scholar
      • National Hispanic Recognition Program
