    Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower young women leaders through rigorous college preparatory experiences, health awareness, commitment to service, and personal accountability for lifelong success.

Talkington School for Young Women Leaders is a college preparatory school serving young women 6th through 12th grades from the Lubbock Independent School District. As a magnet school, entrance to Talkington requires a rigorous application process that includes grades, test scores, recommendation letters, and a personal essay. Students that are accepted must maintain their eligibility by continuing to meet high academic standards as well as service learning hours each year. Now in its tenth year, Talkington has earned distinction as a National Blue Ribbon School (2016) and has won numerous awards and recognitions, both state and national. One hundred per cent of Talkington graduates have been accepted to four-year colleges/universities and the total in scholarship offerings each year has exceeded $1,000,000. Talkington truly prepares its students to be successful in college, career, and beyond.

Talkington students focus on advanced academics starting in 6th grade. All middle school core courses are pre-AP to prepare students for the rigor of AP courses which begin in 9th grade. One hundred percent of Talkington students have completed AP courses and many have graduated with an equivalent of 18 to 36 college credits. In addition to core academics, Talkington offers a full suite of elective courses, including choir, orchestra, piano, Spanish 1 to 5, robotics, 2- and 3-dimensional art, journalism, athletics, a variety of technology courses, and more. Students can also participate in UIL Academics, Cheer, Robotics competitions, coding clubs, and more, for a well-rounded middle and high school experience.
