Welcome to Roscoe Wilson IB World School
Named in honor of a man known for his many significant contributions to the community of Lubbock, Texas, Roscoe Wilson Elementary opened in January of 1940, in what was then described as southwest Lubbock. Constructed for students in the 1st through 6th grades, the new building consisted of eight classrooms for 270 students.
Seventy-eight years later and 548 students strong, Roscoe Wilson Elementary International Baccalaureate-Primary Years Programme World School sits in the heart of central Lubbock and serves neighborhood students as well as transfer students from throughout Lubbock and the entire South Plains region. Located near the Texas Tech University campus, we treasure our parent partnerships, rich history in our community, and diverse culture where over sixteen different languages from all around the world are represented among our school family. One of the first elementary campuses in this region of the state to earn the distinction of the International Baccalaureate World School Authorization, our Primary Years Programme provides the rigorous framework for the development of internationally-minded learners who embody the ten attributes of the IB Learner Profile that guide our daily work in developing students to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, courageous, balanced, and reflective young people.
As evidenced by our student achievement and successes through the years, Roscoe Wilson Elementary boasts a proud history of distinction, earning recognition and awards such as a National Distinguished Performance Award Winning School, TEA Exemplary and Gold Star Performance, Magnet Schools of Texas School of Merit, TEA Distinction Designations, UIL Sweepstakes Championship, South Plains Regional Science Fair Sweepstakes Winner. Our school family of dedicated faculty members utilize research-based best practices in providing learning experiences that are conceptually designed, inquiry-based, and centered around student interests and creativity. We offer a concentrated focus on fine arts (Music, Art, Theatre, and Suzuki Strings) and language development for our students. Enrichment opportunities from Chess Club, Magic Garden, University Interscholastic League, United Future Leaders, Choir, Running Club, Destination Imagination, Robotics, Science Fair, and Cross Country Team provide a wide range of opportunities for our students.
With 52 staff members and over 350 PTA members, we are proud to be the Roscoe Wilson “Wranglers”. A Wrangler is a Texas term that describes a hard working, rough and tough cowboy. Our parents exemplify this hard work in their volunteerism and partnership. We are privileged and proud of our school family connections with this award winning Parent Teacher Association. Their unwavering commitment and dedication serve to strengthen and empower the learning environment everyday for our Roscoe Wilson Wranglers.
Today, as Wranglers we cherish our rich history as we reflect back on the life of Mr. Roscoe Wilson and the lifelong contributions he made in our community. We are grateful for the legacy he left for us to follow in leaving his community much better than he found it. Through our learning journey together as Wranglers, we will strive to leave the world a better place than we found it.
