  • Principal's Message

This is my 25th year working in Lubbock ISD! I have been a teacher, counselor and an assistant principal from elementary to high school level. I went to Monterey and to Texas Tech and graduated at West Texas State A&M. It is such a blessing to have lived down the street from Preston Smith 31 years ago and watch every brick be layed. Dale and I have two grown married children. Lauren and her husband, Ryan live in Temple with our grandsons, Colton and Chauncey.  Our son, Daniel is married to Kim and they live in the Woodlands with our granddaughter, Madelyn Grace.

I am so thrilled to be the principal at Preston Smith! It is a school rich in tradition and I look forward to continuing striving for excellence. We have the most dedicated and hardworking staff in all of Lubbock. Our students strive for excellence with the support of great parents.. Each staff member adheres to our motto of "Every Child, Every Day." We celebrate our success with all distrinctions given by the state and look forward to our A rating again this year. You have the opportunity to volunteer at Smith and get involved in our very active PTA that supports us. PTA has generiously provided Smith with many gifts. We appreciate our PTA!

My goal is that every student is a better person academically and ready to face the world with grace and resilience. It is always a great day at Smith and never better to be a Smith Star! Our faculty chose a word to strive to meet or be inspired by this year. I chose "Invest" My goal for the year is to devote my time and effort and energy to help promote worthwhile results. As always it is a great day to be a Smith Star where we shine bright and "Never Settle".
