• Roscoe Wilson Elementary is the first school in the South Plains region of the state to become authorized as an International Baccalaureate – World School - Primary Years Programme.  The complex program ensures that our students are exposed to advanced level thinking through inquiry instruction and questioning skills.  The components of the program also include a learner profile, learning the concept of international mindedness through understanding others’ differences, common assessment techniques and action-the concept of taking responsibility and making a difference.  Our students learn increasingly advanced skills in these areas and the culmination of their learning is the fifth grade “Exhibition”.  Exhibition requires students to engage in a collaborative, transdisciplinary inquiry process that involves them in identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems.  With a significant percentage of identified gifted and talented students, with varying levels of academic achievement, our primary tool for instructional delivery is the International Baccalaureate-World School - Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP).  In addition, Roscoe Wilson Elementary serves as an elementary Fine Arts Magnet for the Lubbock Independent School District providing and emphasis on instruction and student engagement in Art, Music, Theater, as well as Spanish for all Pre-K- Fifth Grade students.   Student performances in fine arts are showcased each month.  In addition, students at Roscoe Wilson Elementary have the option of participating in private lessons during the day, through the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra – STELR- Suzuki Strings program.  These students perform throughout the year at school, Texas Tech University, community and civic events around our city.   Roscoe Wilson Elementary utilizes a School Family Culture philosophy as supported by Dr. Becky Bailey’s research on Conscious Discipline foundational structures of an emotionally intelligent classrooms provide children with an environment wherein they experience the importance of a interconnectionedness and independence in their school family as well as the world.
