Texas Tech honors Lubbock ISD's 'Living Legends'
The Texas Tech Office of Institutional Diversity and the Black Cultural Center in the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hosted a “Living Legends” luncheon to recognize former Lubbock ISD employees in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event was a wonderfully special recognition of these Lubbock ISD administrators and educators!

Hutchinson MS Science Bowl team headed to nationals
The Hutchinson MS Science Bowl team is on their way to nationals after earning first place at the Pantex Middle School Regional Science Bowl earlier this month. Among more than 20 teams in the double-elimination competition, the Hutchinson MS team was undefeated during the elimination rounds. They will compete in the national competition in Washington, D.C. in April. Congratualations to Lishan Prado, Raaghav Nandana, Caroline Moon, Hansong Zuo, and Kyle Choi and their coach/sponsor science teacher Amanda Carmona!

Monterey HS basketball star nabs all-time scoring record
Monterey HS girls basketball star Aaliyah Chavez broke a 41-year-old basketball scoring record during a game earlier this month against Lubbock Cooper. With 1,744 points, Chavez is now the Lady Plainsmen’s All-Time Leading Scorer, a record previously held by the great Kamie Ethridge, who had 1,729 points from 1979-82.
Talkington SYWL is the top Title 1 magnet school in Texas
The Texas Education Agency has recognized the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders as the top performing magnet school receiving Title 1 funding in the state of Texas. We're so proud of our Lady Warriors!
Lubbock ISD teams dominate district championship meet
Lubbock ISD will have 64 student athletes at the regional swimming and diving championships after a dominant performance at the district meet last weekend. Among the highlights are two Estacado swimmers advancing to 3-4A regionals, a 13th consecutive win for the Lubbock HS girls team and a 12th consecutive win for the Lubbock HS boys, and eight district meet records. Congratulations to all of our Lubbock ISD swimmers and divers and best of luck at the regional championships!
Honey ES celebrates 80 days until summer vacation
Students and staff at Honey ES celebrated 80 school days until summer vacation last week with an '80s theme, a fun countdown twist as we mark the 100th day of the school year on Wednesday, February 1.
Atkins MS students serve hot chocolate for heroes
Structured Learning Classroom (SLC) students at Atkins MS served hot chocolate on Wednesday morning to honor military members, veterans, and first responders who stopped by the campus. The Hot.Chocolate for Heroes event has become a regular tradition for the Tornadoes.

First Baptist Church spreads holiday cheer
During the holiday season, longtime Lubbock ISD partner First Baptist Church hosted a Christmas store for more than 40 families. The church shopped for items in advance to allow families to each choose one large gift and one small gift for each of their children. Volunteers then wrapped the gifts and provided dinner for the families to eat together. Thank you to our friends at First Baptist Church for supporting Lubbock ISD families!
