Mcwhorter ES Students Volunteer for Family in Need
Fourth- and fifth-grade students from McWhorter Elementary School spent the first Saturday of their Thanksgiving break helping a family in need. Through a program called 20Time, the students were challenged to find ways they could make a difference in the community. They discussed local needs and spent time walking around the school and neighborhood to find projects they were passionate about supporting. One of those projects, chosen by the students, was to replace the roof on a nearby home. Painting was added to the project to allow the students to be actively involved in the work. Prior to Saturday's work day, they created an elevator speech, outlined the steps needed to complete the project and pitched their idea to local businesses to gain support and donations.
