Fifth-grade students at Ramirez Elementary School hosted their Exhibition for parents, district guests, and the greater Lubbock community on Tuesday before the spring break holiday. Students opened the evening under the direction of music teacher, Kendall Newman, and accompanied on piano by former Ramirez student, Ethan Hammons, singing “Sisi Ni Moja” (“We are One” in Swahili). Student presentations filled rooms all over campus, with topics ranging from racism and world hunger to families dealing with separation and concern over children losing their imagination. During the presentations, students shared their learning as well as how they chose to take action on their topic and make the world better as a result of their new understandings. The event is recognized as a celebration of the students’ time as an IB Primary Years Program student and a time to begin looking ahead to middle school.
