Twenty-Three Lubbock ISD Students Advanced to UIL Academics State Competition

A total of 23 Lubbock ISD students advanced to the 2019 UIL Academics State Competition: seven from Coronado High School, fifteen from Lubbock High School and one from Talkington School for Young Women Leaders. Below are the teams’ state results.

Coronado High School

  • Accounting team – 3rd place

Lubbock High School

  • Spelling and Vocabulary team – 1st place
  • Mathematics team – 2nd place
  • Number sense team – 2nd place
  • Science team – 2nd place
  • Calculator Applications team – 3rd place

As a complete UIL Academic program, Lubbock High sits at a team total of 114 points, which is 2 points ahead of Highland Park for the 5A team state championship. This will be the first time since 1991 that Lubbock High is in the lead for the state championship. The only remaining events are part of the Speech competition, which will take place May 29-30 in Austin.
