McWhorter ES student advances to National Spanish Spelling Bee

McWhorter ES student Jimena Bustamante is on her way to the National Spanish Spelling Bee after earning second place at the 12th annual Lubbock Spanish Spelling Bee last weekend.

The event is hosted annually by the Texas Tech Chapter Alpha Phi of the Sigma Delta Pi National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, in collaboration with the Llano Estacado Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Lubbock ISD students were among the 39 from around the Lubbock area who competed at the contest, including students from Bean, Ramirez, and McWhorter elementary schools; Atkins Middle School; and the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders.
