Lubbock ISD Students Show up Strong at State Swim/Dive Meet

A repeat state champion is among the Lubbock ISD swimmers and divers who traveled to Austin last weekend to compete in the 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships. 

Payton Props (Lubbock HS) stood atop the podium for the second year in a row as the state champion in diving. Rhett Hensley (Coronado HS) finished in third place in diving and Kolos Nagy (Lubbock HS) finished in second place in the 500 Free. A number of athletes qualified for championship finals: Kolos Nagy (Lubbock HS) finished fourth in the 200 Free, Shaena McCloud (Lubbock HS) finished seventh in the 50 Free and ninth in the 100 Free, Gabby Luna (Talkington SYWL) finished sixth in the 100 Breaststroke, Reagan Hayes (Coronado HS) finished seventh in the 200 and 500 Free, Adrian Jimenez (Monterey HS) finished sixth in diving, and the Lubbock HS girls 200 Free Relay (A.J. Grisham, Christine Vanginault, Shaena McCloud and Laura Byars) finished in fifth place.

In the team standings, the Lubbock HS girls finished in seventh place and the boys finished in nineteenth place. The Coronado HS girls finished in eighteenth place and boys thirty-seventh place, and the Monterey HS boys finished in thirtieth place.

Payton Props was named Girl Diver of the Meet and Penny DiPomazio was named Girls Diving Coach of the Meet.
