    Fourteen Lubbock ISD Students Headed to State UIL Meet

    Fourteen Lubbock ISD students qualified for the state UIL Academic/Speech meet after competing at the regional event.


    Lubbock High School won the regional sweepstakes by more than 100 points and is sending four teams to state.


    Coronado High School is sending one team to state and senior Adan Rubio is one of 12 state finalists in the Latino History Essay Competition.


    At the district meet in March, Lubbock High School won the district sweepstakes by more than 300 points. Students advanced to the regional contest in Calculator, Computer Science, Current Events, Literary Criticism, Math, Number Sense, Science, Social Studies, and Spelling and Vocabulary; and competitors advancing in the individual events of Journalism, Ready Writing, Poetry, Persuasive Speaking and Informative Speaking.

    Coronado High school students came in third-place overall and 17 students advanced to the regional competition in Accounting, Calculator Applications, Computer Applications, Feature Writing,
    Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Literary Criticism, Ready Writing, Social Studies and Spelling and Vocabulary.


    The state UIL Academic meet will be April 20-22 at the University of Texas at Austin.
