Arrington Hosts West Texas Warriors Project at Estacado HS

Congressman Jodey Arrington visited Estacado High School on Friday to honor fallen soldiers, brothers, and Estacado graduates Specialist Jose “Freddy” Velez and Specialist Andrew Velez, as part of the West Texas Warrior initiative. The event was Congressman Arrington’s third visit in a series of public ceremonies to honor post-9/11 fallen heroes from District 19.

Jose “Freddy” Velez and younger brother Andrew Velez graduated from Estacado High School in 2000 and 2002. Each went on to enlist in the U.S. Army shortly after graduating. In 2004, while serving his country in Iraq, Jose was killed. After his death in Iraq, Velez's body was escorted home by his brother Andrew Velez. Andrew wanted to continue to protect his country and returned to service. In 2006, after being deployed back to Afghanistan, Andrew suffered the same fate. The Velez family is the only family to lose two sons in the Global War on Terror.
