Lubbock ISD Track Teams Break Records and Win Medals at Regional Meet
All four Lubbock ISD high schools competed in the UIL Region 1 4A/5A Championship on Saturday at PlainsCapital Park. The Estacado and Coronado track teams brought home multiple gold medals, breaking several regional records along the way and qualifying these athletes for state.
The Lady Matadors won first place in the 4x100-meter relay with the fastest time of the day (47.79) and also won first in the 4x200-meter relay, breaking the regional record (1.42:04). Za’Kaja Neloms, Ty’Trice Conor, Malaysia Payton, Kui’Jett Childress, Eboni Adams, and Symphony Brown will all be moving on to state after winning gold medals at the regional meet.
Additionally, Coronado senior Diamond Lilly won first in the 400-meter dash, qualifying for state. Senior Mustang Caleb Wilborn won first in the high jump by clearing a height of 6’10” and setting a new regional record in the process. He will also move on to the state competition in May.
