Lubbock ISD hosted the Area 17 Special Olympics competition at PlainsCapital Park last weekend. Athletes from Atkins, Dunbar, and Mackenzie middle schools, Coronado High School, and the Vocational Transition Center, as well as schools and delegations from all over the Lubbock area were in attendance.

The mission of Special Olympics Texas is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
