Lubbock HS Science Bowl Team Competes at National Championship
The Lubbock High School Science Bowl Black team won their regional competition in February for the 2019 National Science Bowl (NSB) and advanced to compete in the NSB National Finals the last weekend of April in Washington, D.C. The Lubbock HS Black, Gold, and White teams competed at the regional tournament and all three made it to the top 16 for double elimination. The Lubbock HS Black team remained undefeated throughout the contest to earn first place and a trip to nationals. At the national finals, the team finished second in the Round Robin division, winning five out of seven rounds by 80 or more points each.
The members of the Lubbock High School Science Bowl Black team are Tyler Kim, Joseph McCarty (captain), Indu Panigrahi, Kamal Tijani, and Jeffrey Zhou. The team is coached by Jessica Holman. The NSB brings together thousands of middle and high school students from across the country to compete in a fast-paced, question-and-answer format where they solve technical problems and answer questions on a range of science disciplines including biology, chemistry, earth and space science, physics, and math.
