The Coronado High School girls soccer team celebrated the signing of Cassie Garza and Lilly Powers as both seniors signed their National Letters of Intent to play for The University of Texas at El Paso in front of family and friends on Thursday, Nov. 16.
Together, the duo has helped the Mustangs to an overall record of 50-18-7 and a district mark of 25-6-1. During their time at Coronado, Garza and Powers have helped their squad to two district championships - one being an undefeated season. They have pushed their team to two bi-district and area appearances, as well as one regional qualifier and a regional tournament appearance.
A team captain for the Mustangs, Garza has a tally of 26 goals and 29 assists over her first three years. Garza was also named to the Hub City Preps All-City Team as well as the Lonestar Varsity Super Team.
Powers, another team captain for Coronado, posted 14 shutouts in her first season with the Mustangs and followed up with 12 shutouts last season. She was named an All-District Second-Team selection in 2022 and carries two goals and two assists heading into her senior season.
